I found this quote a few days ago and it struck me, and stuck with me. And why do they take up so much room, they add up. The way your friends can always make you smile, or just be there when you need a shoulder to lean on. That flutter you get in the middle of your chest when you think about your significant other, or the memory of walking on the beach, that movie you saw 10 years ago. The way your kids run up and hug your legs when you walk through the door, or when you ask them what they want the Easter Bunny to bring and they say "you." It really isn't how big your bank account is, how many square feet your home has, or how much gas your Hummer can guzzle, all they do is take up the room around you, its the space within that can only be filled with others, which is what really brings joy!

DC yesterday

It's always so nice seeing 1 of my siblings, and always so sad to have to say "good-bye." The people in the Smithsonian probably wondered why in the world this girl was walking through crying! Now, just to wait until we can see them all together again, we're going to make it out to the island next year no matter what! Just hope JJ will be old enough to remember some of the trip!

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone had a great holiday, we're so glad that we've been able to spend time with each of you, now, and the rest of the past year! We're looking forward to what 2009 will bring!

Oh, what a great teenager!

A few days ago John took the boys to the mall. Bran showed me a shirt he had gotten, I teased him about how big it was. Last night I put it in his room and told him not to forget about packing it, he told me that was for his Dad. He used some of his $ to get John a shirt, and he had already gotten him presents! Then, when he realized last night there wasn't a gift for me, he said they'd have one, I told him no, it was ok b/c his mom and I had agreed not to exchange this year, he had a stunned look on his face, then said no, he asked Foster to get me something. I told him it was ok, not to worry about it.

It's just nice to know that in all the teenage "mess" he can look outside himself so easily! He's really been surprising me the last few months, asking how John's classes were going or how JJ was feeling. Hope it sticks through the next 3 years!

Frazzled?

I keep remembering things I need to do and its really bothering me! I didn't even get to make any of my ornaments or any Xmas candy. Still not done shopping for the boys either, and there's some other little things that need to get done. I'm always so on the ball, this year is not usual for me, and I'm not liking it. Teach me not wait like I did this year, not starting in June as I have every other year! Sheesh, the way I feel right now, I'm starting January 1st!

A nice weekend with family

Oh, I'm so drained! But we had a blast this weekend, enough that Dallas losing is I guess ok (if it were to anyone else but the Ravens I couldn't stomach it.) I won the prize fair & square Tommy, not my fault if certain people didn't listen to the rules! And anyway, you should thank me for taking that purse off your hands, lol. Thanks Ginny for hosting us all, coordinating everything, and having my bunch for the night! Looking forward to seeing you next month in warmer weather! Love you all! Thanks for everything as well for us and the boys!

I can find no sympathy....

...for what Caylee's mom is going to face. What she did to her little girl is inexcusable! if she did not want her why would she think taking the child's life was the only option? As many of you know, we want to adopt at some point, and I know there are too many people out there than I can count who want to do the same. Why not find another home for the little girl? Sheesh, she probably had family members that would've taken her in a heartbeat! Murder is always senseless, but when it involves a child, its SO much worse! And she seemed to have no remorse, partying during the time frame when the child was last seen and before she reported her missing? And yes, I know, anyone to do that cannot be mentally sound, but she bought supplies beforehand, she KNEW what she was doing!

All I can think about is the poor little girl.

Oh, and I wonder if its crossed the mom's mind, she's in FLORIDA, they don't mess around!

Secret Santa, shhhhhh

We pulled names at work to do Secret Santa. I got my person, who gave me no ideas, I even sent her a list, through someone else, of questions trying to get an idea. Oh, well, guess that just makes it interesting. I decided to play the Secret Santa in the traditional sense, so she got a little something this morning. It was so much fun b/c I had someone deliver it for me, so she automatically went back to that office, asking questions, assuming it was the other person in that office who was her Secret Santa. This is going to be fun the next couple of days!

Ahh, feel like a child again.....

I joke (full of love of course) about how my 2 favorite cousins treated me like the little sister, the good and the bad. And I look back on everything with fond memories (yeah, even the "swamp monster.")

So, I got a laugh last night when there was a text message on my phone asking who I was going to cheer for on Saturday. The next line told me that if I wear my Ravens jersey I would be going home with a rash.

And what can I say to that? I was stumped for a witty come back. Guess I'm out of practice.

Dragging....

Oh, its getting harder and harder to wake up! I can't wait til the days get longer again, I need some sun light! It doesn't help that JJ didn't sleep worth anything last night, he got too much rest on the car ride to take Brandon up, and on the way back home. But, we had a fun weekend and got a little shopping done. Just not enough, there's so much to do this week, and I'm sure that isn't helping the way I am feeling either!

Online tracking...

Being able to track packages online is not really helpful at all. If the package gets lost what good does it really do? It doesn't make the package get her any sooner, in fact, with me its like "a watched pot never boils." I'll sit and check and wonder why a package hasn't left WV since 2 mornings ago, or how come the package made it to my hometown days ago but hasn't made it the other 2 miles to my front door. All it does is make me stew on why I don't have it already, and totally lowers the cuteness factor of the UPS guys.

(Yeah, can you tell I ordered something for Xmas.....)

And again.....

This morning JJ woke up to a green Power Ranger, but unfortunately he wasn't nearly as thrilled as yesterday morning, but we think he has an ear infection. Poor boy has to have another doctor's appointment this afternoon :(

The 1st time ever!

JJ fell asleep in his own bed. Now, there's many of nights (ok, all of them) that he will fall asleep in our bed and then we'll transfer him, for him to only crawl back in sometime in the morning. But last night he fell asleep in his own bed for the 1st time ever (no, I don't count the couple times we tried the "cry it out." Those times were horrific, a child should not cry for almost 2 hours!) But last night I started out laying on the floor next to his bed then before he fell asleep I moved to our bed and held his hand (his mattress is next to my side of the bed, yeah, we cosleep, no, we're not crunchy.)

And do you know what motivated him to even try?

The promise of a Power Ranger, which was waiting for him on the night stand when he woke up.

And now the update version of the pic

I LOVE these ladies
Look at all the hot mommas! I had a blast out with all you ladies last night, I really needed that, thanks to everyone for making it a wonderful night and blessing me with your company, but Angie, thanks for coordinating everything, and Trish (aka Secret Santa) thanks for such special gifts!

Looking forward to tonight & tomorrow!

I miss my JM friends! I haven't been able to see you all nearly enough this past year and I'm really looking forward to a girls night out (along with the goodies) and I'm also looking forward to getting the kids together tomorrow. I'm in serious need of time out! Can't wait, this day will probably go by so slow. Now, off to get my stuff together and get myself ready for work!

I was in a crafty mood last night...

I saw initial paintings on a site and fell in love and decided to try 1 since I felt there was no way I would personally pay $20+ for a 5x5. I went back and retouched the letter on this 1 some, its trickier than it looks. I think next time I will get the paint markers to have more control. Now to get a few more canvases, but remind myself that I still have some other craft & cooking things to do....

And then I did the digi scrap page, putting off doing JJ's "3 Years Old" page b/c when I started on it last week and got almost 75% done the program closed on me, so I'm taking a break on that one, I wasn't fully satisfied with with the layout anyway....

It's Mr. Chris Moose....

http://www.elfontheshelf.com/
Ok, so I stole a tradition. I'm going to cut myself a break, it's being hocked for $ anyway (such a cute idea, I would too had it been my own!) But, I looked and looked for an elf with no luck. And decided why not make the tradition more our own. So, we have a moose, or maybe he's a reindeer, I can't tell. But, JJ named him Chris Moose last night. Now, each night after we all go to bed Chris Moose makes a trip up to the North Pole to report to Santa about us all. Last night JJ said he was only going to talk about Brandon with Santa. This morning when we woke up Chris Moose had decided to sit down in a different spot after his long trip North and back. JJ's face was priceless, the "ooohhhh" look, his little mouth in a perfect "O", then the smile, wish I could have captured that moment!
So, if you manage to make it over before Xmas, and if you happen to spy Chris Moose, go ahead and say "hi" to him, and keep in mind, he's watching you ;)

Magical.......

Is there anything more magical that watching a child look at a Christmas tree being lit up? There's no way those tiny little lights can put THAT much spark in their eyes! What makes it so much more special, it continues to happen each and every night when they are turned on!

DECEMBER!

Where did 2008 go? And how did it manage to fly by so quickly? But, there's so much to look forward to this month! JJ will be writing his letter to Santa and taking it to Macy's to help make wishes come true, not just his own (http://www.abc15.com/content/news/webxtra/story.aspx?content_id=acf2ff6c-0f9b-47c9-ba52-2599e65d8b64). We have our mommy group's kids' party Saturday, and the night before I get an evening out with those same mommy friends for our own adult party. I get an excuse to go shopping, and its more fun shopping for others anyway. Of course there's the daily excitement with JJ with the advent calendar (I've picked up a couple extra things, a book or Xmas themes toy to add to the candy as a special treat for a couple nights.) Bran will be bringing a friend down next weekend and we're going to "Swim with Santa" at the hotel we stayed at a couple weekends ago. This is the 1st year JJ will sorta get the cookies & milk for Santa, and waking up Xmas morning! I get time with family and friends, which is priceless, and right now I'm very excited that after Xmas I will be seeing my middle sister who will be visiting from HI. And then, after the New Year, while everyone else here is shivering, we'll be enjoying sunny FL! All in all, thanks to friends and family, we will go out with a bang, and bring in the new year the same.

My little boy is 3

I can't believe 3 years have flown by so quickly! The time goes by too fast, no matter how hard I try to savor each moment with you. Each and every day you make me laugh, you've inherited our dry sense of humor already and when you do or say something, then say "ha, ha" we can't help but giggle at you, then you get on us that it isn't funny. As much as we were worried when you stopped talking, now you seem to always have words ready, many of which surprise us that you can even say them, let alone understand them! We've made our usual trips to PA, NJ, FL and Va to see family and friends, and you also got to go to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure this year. You finally love the beach and pool. You have a fascination with Cowboys, Pirates, and Ninjas. There's still a love for motorcycles and airplanes, Daddy takes you around the yard on the motorcycle each time he starts it up, and we are currently planning a flight for you and brother with a friend. You've fallen for superheros, your favorites seems to be Spiderman and Iron Man. You're so lovable, hugs and kisses all the time, and I melt each time you say "I love you." I'm going to file each and every one of those away for in a short time you will become embarrassed to be affectionate. You love puzzles and books, which hopefully will stick forever. You're our little daredevil, trying to ride bikes down slides or climbing onto anything. Dr Nu tells me she doesn't want to hear any complaints from parents with smart kids, or stubborn ones, that it will get you far, which is of course what we all hope for you! I hope you've had a wonderful year, as wonderful as you've made this one for us! As much as we miss the baby that you were, and we enjoy you each and every day of our little boy, we also look forward to all that is to come. We love you past the stars and back, more than you can every imagine!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope you all enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday! Stuff yourselves and watch some football (and you better root for Dallas for me!)Take some time to think about all that you have, give thanks for all the little things, and for just once today, block out any complaints that might creep up!We all have so much to be thankful for! But still, take a little time to say a prayer, or send positive thoughts, or make a wish (whatever strikes your fancy or beliefs) to someone who may not be as blessed...
Love - Kat

Wacky Wednesday

A funny for those of us filling ourselves on turkey and pigskins tomorrow!

The pro football team had just finished their daily practice session when a large turkey came strutting onto the field. While the players gazed in amazement, the turkey walked up to the head coach and demanded a tryout. Everyone stared in silence as the turkey caught pass after pass and ran right through the defensive line. When the turkey returned to the sidelines, the coach shouted, "You're terrific!!! Sign up for the season, and I'll see to it that you get a huge bonus." "Forget the bonus," the turkey said, "All I want to know is, does the season go past Thanksgiving Day?"

What I'm thankful for

- My family *I know, its true, you don't HAVE to put up with me anymore, we're all over 18 now, we're not going to get in trouble with our parents for being mean anymore.
- My friends *You guys really don't have to put up with me, there's no blood ties, you don't have to be nice to me, and you're all more than nice, pulling my sorry butt up when I'm playing my own violin, making me laugh when I need it most, hearing my droning nonsense, etc.
- My husband *I don't even think I could put into words all the things that I love and appreciate about you, and that's the sad thing b/c they really do need to be verbalized!
- My boys *I don't think you 2 will even comprehend just how much I've depended on your presences. People always think that through life parents carry the children, but just knowing that you guys are in my life has brought me through so much.
- My coworkers *I love the people I work with, there's no doubt you all make the day so pleasant. There's not 1 day, no matter what has happened, that I haven't had at least 1 laugh! most of you can count yourself in this column but also in the 2nd one, so know, that even though I get paid to be around you, I'd still want to be even if not!

I'm also thankful that I have a roof over my head, heat (and air conditioning), running water, a soft bed, electricity, vehicles that run, lower gas prices, family to visit in other states, a full closet, medical coverage, good health, and all the other things in my life that daily I might take for granted.

Now I need a weekend from our weekend

We had a great time this weekend. I only got 1 pic from Coco's, so if anyone else got more please send them to me! Friday night we went directly to the pool at the hotel, Saturday we did the party then came back and did Old Time Photos, then Winterfest of Lights. It was great spending time with friends (though I wish I had more time!) and family! It was a great way to bring in the holidays and I thank you all for spending time with us!
Here's a link to all of my pics on facebook, I also posted them on Myspace: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=62301&l=0b69f&id=718801160

Our weekend to come

We're going to wear JJ out this weekend! And this isn't including him playing with his cousins as well! Can you see why I'm so excited!? And of course, being near the outlet's, momma's getting a new pair of shoes that she has her eyes on as well ;)

White stuff

Nope, there's none outside! They weren't calling for it in out part of MD anyway, but I was still very happy to wake up and not have the ground be white!

A lot of people like snow. I find it to be an unnecessary freezing of water. Carl Reiner

This weekend

I'm so looking forward to this weekend, not only b/c of JJ's birthday party (which will be a lot of fun with being able to get together with friends) but also b/c my fav cousins are coming down and we have some fun activities planned for the kiddies in OC. I don't want the week to go by quickly, time flies quick enough as it is, I know better now than to wish the time away, but I'm still excited about seeing everyone. It's a great way to start out the holiday season!!!

Bad luck?

John says if it weren't for bad luck we wouldn't have any luck at all.

2 weeks ago it was something with the van, before that a light in the Xterra, now the power steering went up in the Jeep. John has been working on it since 10am this morning, bad parts having to go back has slowed him down considerably. Oh, and let's not forget right now the Taurus has the engine sitting on the ground while a new one is being put in. Oh, and he told me a light blew in the van.

Yep, we have 4 vehicles. Doesn't sound like bad luck at all, huh. We've been lucky to get good deals on 2 used vehicles in the past couple of years, 1 of which owes us nothing from what its already been driven by us. We're lucky that when 1 goes up we have another one to drive until its fixed. We're lucky that we have a friend who will work on things with John for a little money. We're lucky that John himself is mechanically inclined and can do little things himself.

I think an adjustment needs to be made (I'll give him some leeway, he was just frustrated, and at least he said it with humor in his voice.)

Foto Friday

I love this pic b/c I managed to catch JJ before he saw the camera, just enjoying himself. The next picture I took he has his maniacal smile going, which of course is still cute.

I wonder if this is what they meant when the term "Saltwater Cowboy" was made up for those of us on the Shore. Guess right now if he picked up his red guitar he'd have more in common with that singing cowboy on the streets of NY huh...... (yes, I know the nickname.)

Thursday, November 13, 2008

Huh, its the middle of November?

I'm having such a hard time keeping up with the days, I'm putting down yesterday, tomorrow, and if I'm lucky the right one. By the time I get used to today, its gone!

Wacky Wednesday

Is anyone else hating the cold already? What's up with this weather, November have been so nice the past few years, but this one has me worried we're set for a bad winter! I'm not made for the cold, not enough natural insulation!

Happy Veteran's Day!

To my hubby, my Dad, my brother (even though you're a lifer!), my brother-in-law, my uncles, my cousins, my nephews, and all the other military men & women out there who deserve our deepest gratitude! I hope you all get to enjoy your day, and anyone reading this, thank those you know that are serving or have served - and if you happen to have today off, be especially thankful ;)

Movies

Everyone said the Indiana Jones & The Crystal Skulls was a let down. I was setting myself up not to be disappointed, but we liked it! I thought it was a cool twist! And after knowing a little of the myth behind the Crystal Skulls made it more interesting! Gonna have to add that to the list to get my Dad as well!

Late (like all else) Foto Friday

Here's our ham, cheesing it up! You'd swear in some of the pics he's angry, trying to scare someone, or doing his favorite superhero of the day impression. But nope, its the way he says "cheese." I hope we can get him to just smile before he hits school, otherwise we're going to have some great laughs (and some future blackmail) over his yearly pictures!

Late Wacky Wednesday

I totally missed this last week and I'm late this week, too much going on! But, this is in honor of JJ who for some reason decided to tell me that the crocodile bit him Monday. You're guess is as good as mine as to what he meant!

push more buttons?

As soon as we got in the truck this morning JJ asked if we were going to go push buttons b/c he wanted more stickers. Last night he "cast" my ballot for me and thought it was so much fun. Hope he stays interested!

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

I type too much....

I didn't realize it until someone pointed it out to me b/c they couldn't type at my computer, but I've worn away a good # of the letters off my keyboard. It's not normally something I look at a lot, but now taking notice of it, its kinda funny looking!

Time change

I know I'm not the only one this screws with, at least this is much easier to take than the spring forward! But coming home with the dark is gonna be a downer! If it "saved" money to push it back, how bout we don't do it at all? The farmers can get up at a different time right, why do the rest of us have to?

Another work pic

Here's my "office mates" yesterday. Guess Sarah Palin also likes animals, maybe she should put that on her platform....

Sick kid & Happy Halloween

My little guy has his 1st ever ear infection so he's on antiobiotics for the 1st time ever as well. This came out of the blue, no cold, sickness, runny nose, or even allergies. I'm hoping he's better today but needless to say he won't be trick-or-treating tonight. I might do something else with him b/c unfotunately our neighbors aren't great for handing out candy so there aren't many kids for him to even see come to our door in their costumes. Looks like JJ is taking after me in the sense that holidays don't work too good for the body, he was sick at Easter even!

But, I hope everyone gets to enjoy their Halloween today and tonight! Can't wait to see everyone's pictures!

Work shirts

A couple of us had slightly diff "work" shirts (which we made) yesterday in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Oh, he's growing up on me!

Oh, he's getting so big so quickly!

JJ the beanstalk

I started noticing it last week, but JJ is growing out of his 3t jeans and pants. It's only length wise b/c the waists he could probably fit in for a couple more years (literally, he could still wear a 18-24 month if we were only going on waist size.) This morning I showed John how his jeans were at his ankle, 3ts, but the waist was swimming on him. Thankfully a lot of 4ts have the same waist size as 3ts, only longer length, and I can get the slim jeans or the ones with the adjustable straps inside. Guess he's got the Johnson build from his great-poppop as well, tall and skinny (do you know how many times I have been called stringbean, beanstalk, bones, etc.) But don't tell my Dad that, he swears that JJ is going to be big and broad like John, guess he hasn't seen too many 3 year olds to compare JJ to, lol.

But, I asked JJ this morning if he's grown, he told me yeah. I told him he's gotta stop that and stay little for me. As a friend pointed out, they never listen huh.

My old book....

I recently pulled out an old "journal" of poems, songs, quotes, rhymes, cards, etc. It's interesting to see the progression, my change in thinking over the different events, and how much there is in it that still means so much to me.
There is 1 thing that really does have bearing over my life, and all of you in it, and yeah, I'm pretty aware of my eccentricities, so I know how true it can be to many of you.

"The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved, loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves."
- Victor Hugo

Here's also a couple Dr Seuss Quotes I'll be adding, I'm looking for a non-childrens book if anyone happens across one!
- “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.”
- “Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.”
- “Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.”
- “I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some come from behind. But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready you see. Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!”
- “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” (wow, right from my Dad's mouth!)
- “I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, It's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, And that enables you to laugh at life's realities.”
- “Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So... get on your way.”

Jolly Roger JJ

I couldn't resist posting this, even though its my 3rd post today! Rhea gave us a pirate costume from her boys last year, which is greatly appreciated b/c JJ just loves playing pretend! I promised him that after his nap today that he'd be able to be a pirate and those were the 1st words out of his mouth upon waking!

In the 60's

I know, its kinda cheating to not actually dress up for Halloween, but its still fun! If you wanna try yourself, here's a link!

My little Ninja

From Treat Street last night at the Crown Sports Center. Thank goodness we got there early! It got to be a mad house! But JJ really enjoyed his 1st time out really trick or treating! I knew this year was going to be so neat with him at the holidays (and yeah, any given day.)

Foto Friday

JJ's daycare provider took some pics of their pumpkin painting Wednesday. JJ was so proud of his pumpkin, he had to show everyone! And Ginny, do you recognize the smock? If you get a chance let me know where you found it, his daycare provider would like to get some.

For our military

As many of you know, I come from a strong military family. John and I met 11 years ago while I was taking the ASVAB and he was a recruiter plus I have an older brother who I am very proud of! My Dad was also a Marine (oh, sorry, once a Marine always a Marine.) And there are many others in my family who deserve more honor than they have every been given for their service!

My cousin recently started a blog for GOOD military stories to offset the deluge of negative things put out by the media. If anyone would like to contribute, please email any stories to: anamericanquilt@yahoo.com

The blog's address is http://anamericanquilt.blogspot.com/

Have you ever told him.....

Have you ever told your man that he's a good Dad? I hadn't, oh, I have told other people what a great guy he is, or good husband, and yes, even good Dad, but I had never told him. I told John last night, he was kinda struck, didn't know what to say. It did sorta come out of the blue, the thought popped in my head and right out my mouth (like so many other things do.) I was immediately glad I said it, then it dawned on me that I had never said it to him. I need to let him know more things that I take for granted he knows, b/c even if he does, its still things that need to be verbalized every so often. Early in our relationship I would leave him little cards and notes, maybe I need to bring that practice back.

A friend posted this Dr Suess quote in a discussion, who knew he wasn't all about green eggs & ham!
"You know you are in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams."

Worry

What can I say, I'm a worrier, always have been, imagine I always will be. It's worse when it involves someone I love. It's worse when I don't have all the information yet and I have to wait to get it (have I also mentioned that I'm not a patient person?) And the feeling of helplessness, not being able to do anything to rectify the situation, makes it worse. I know, I was warned, this comes with the territory, we've all heard that once the worry starts it never ends....

It's not as much fun being an adult huh. And to top that off, I'm sitting here with a headache and the Runts that a center brought in for us all just do not taste the same. Guess its kinda like fortune cookies, they are just different now that I am an adult. It's bad enough we have to deal with all the heavy stuff of life, but to have candy not taste good anymore, its just unfair!

Back home

Back home from the Komen race today. Thanks everyone for your donation and well wishes! It really means a lot to me! There were SO many people there. I overheard 1 woman say they were expecting 30.000 participants but they got many more. It was overwhelming at 1st, seeing the street packed with people, to see so much pink, everyone touched by breast cancer. It was beautiful, there's really no ther word to describe it. My goal is to next year do the 5k timed race with my cousin and her husband (BTW, thanks Ginny for doing the walk with me and way to go Mike on 23 minutes!) John and I will also be doing the benefit ride sometime this year too if any other motorcycle enthusiasts would like to join us. Again, thanks everyone for your love & support, it really means a lot to me!

The only way to get JJ to not ask for his Ninja costume for Halloween was to offer other suggestions, he was all for dressing up as a biker. The next morning John was getting him dressed and this is what I found when I walked out, I was laughing so hard! His daycare provider said he wouldn't take the do-rag off all day, not even to nap, and he wouldn't let any of his friends touch it! I have to say that he's so adorable, but I have some apologizing to do for passing on the Johnson ears to the poor boy!

And don't forget you can still sign up or donate for the Komen Race this weekend, see my blog post from Oct 7th at the bottom of this page! Thanks to everyone for your support!

As of last Friday we are officially licensed foster and adoptive parents! Thanks to all of you who gave support, reccomendations, well wishes or "just" an ear! We greatly appreciate you all!

Email a duck, raise a buck

Many of you got this email last year, here it is again. I tried bring my old duck into action (#594) but all it shows is the generic duck, but it does have my map from last year. Let's try to get this duck going further!

Pics

We had our family pics done yesterday and we picked up an extra 1 of the boys. I have to say that had to be my favorite photo session ever! So many pics turned out great, it was hard to choose! Now I just have to get JJ's 3 year old pics soon, and Brandon just had his school pics done Friday! So I'll be updating the wall soon, lol.

Bad week for the men!

So, 2 hours after JJ hurt himself the other day (see yesterday's post) John sends me a text that according to a nurse coworker he has divertaticulitis and "may" go to the doctor. Did a little research and made him go. He's on antibiotics for the infection (no palpable pus pockets or knots) and since yesterday on meds for the cramping which had not fully gone away.

Yesterday, Bran's playing dodgeball in gym (didn't most schools ban this?) and some kid lands on him and he hurts his knee. Of course they can't see anything at the ER, its swollen, so he goes to the ortho Wednesday, in the meantime keeping in wrapped. Districts is coming up next weekend (the only freshman to make it!) so hopefully he'll get the all clear before then.

So, does anyone want to guess how much the guys will be milking it this weekend? I'll probably be running out the door Monday morning, but how will they deal with each other's miserable selves alone that day, lol.

This is a pic of JJ with his friend Bud at daycare Wednesday. Kristin joked that they must've called each other to discuss what they were going to wear. Thankfully you can't see in the pic that JJ has the makings of what will be a black eye, and a purple lip from trying to do a headstand off the couch. I told Kristin if he's anything like me he will be a little dare-devil, but what scares me worse is he will be like my Dad, no fear (2 years old climbing on the roof of the old farm house! And my Dad thinks its the neatest thing in the world that JJ is so much like him - black eyes, serious expressions, planes, motorcycles, and now our own little Evil Knievel!) Kristin told me last week she caught him tying to put a bicycle on the slide to ride down it! Long ago I did tell my mom he was going to be my Dennis The Menace, not malicious, but inquisitive. HELP ME!

I'm turning into my parents.....

Who didn't hear growing up that if we didn't pick our clothes off the floor then they'd be thrown away, or giving to Goodwill?

We've graduated it seems, to threatening that you will get 1 set of clothes to wear all the time. And this isn't John's or my threat, but I love it, lol.

An Army Of Women

http://mailing.armyofwomen.org/rd/9z1zamn0ht5n4d2t3vjm6vtilpmvi47bns79k4g2200
Help find a cure for breast cancer! The Army is dedicated to representing ALL women in research so that the research results will apply to ALL women. This means we need you to help us recruit women of all ages, ethnicities, sizes, and shapes. We need women who have had breast cancer and women who have not. We need African American women, Asian women, white women, Latinas, and lesbians to be involved.

Race For The Cure

Please join me on Sunday, October 19th so you can be among the anticipated 35,000 people who will participate in the 2008 Komen Maryland Race for the Cure held in Hunt Valley, Maryland. Your help will help support the Komen promise of saving lives and ending breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality for all and energizing science to find the cures.

Because early detection is the best protection for breast cancer, Komen Maryland sponsors grants that increase the number of women who have annual mammograms and clinical breast exam screenings. Komen grants also target the entire range of breast health services from transportation to appointments and financial support to clinical trials and national research to find a cure.

Let's work together to help find a cure, so other families & friends will not experience the loss that we all have! Breast cancer touches everyone, let's help find a way to stop it!

All you need to do is follow the link to my personal webpage to make a donation or to register as a race participant! It's that easy! For more information visit my personal web page and help me in my efforts to support Susan G. Halloween Questions

Since "Wacky Wednesday" was pretty serious, here's something lighter and takes a little input. Here's 2 one liners, let's see some answers, the cornier the better!!

1. Why did the skeleton go disco dancing?

2. Why do ghosts shiver and moan?

October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October in Breast Cancer Awareness Month. this affects many of us 1 way or another.

As you all know, June 2007 I lost my mom to her 2nd battle with breast cancer. My mom was my best friend and no one could ask for a better mother! She was 1 of 21 kids (an identical twin so as we all say, JJ has 2 grandmothers since he insists on calling my Aunt "MawMaw.") As you can imagine she didn't have a lot materially growing up, so she strived to make sure I had it all, and at the same time she raised me to appreciate what I was given as well. She put up with my dad and myself, many times being between what must have felt like as 2 brick walls. She was a miracle worker with her yard, a WONDERFUL cook, and took great pleasure in sewing for others (there are many things around our house touched by her hands!) There have been many times when I have tried to express in words the extent of her personality but there are no combination or words that would adequately describe her!

My mom was diagnosed the first time 5 years ago and went through radiation therapy, even missing her own father's wake, to make sure she didn't miss an appointment! She was given the all clear, went to her follow-up appointments, and had all the necessary checks and tests. She refused mammograms and instead had MRIs b/c with her first mass, even though it could be felt, the mammogram would not pick it up. Had she not been persistent in that decision, they never would have found the 2nd cancer under her chest cavity. Right after JJ was born (her 1st long awaited biological grandchild) she was diagnosed the 2nd time. This time she had to endure numerous chemotherapies, most of which left her weak and sick. Even the PET scan that she had gave her skin cancer which had to be treated daily by a nurse who would come to the house. But, she was doing good, the cancer levels had gone to the bottom of the chart, so her doctor gave her 2 months off, then an extra month off. We think this time gave the cancer an opportunity to mutate b/c after that no form of treatment would keep the numbers from rising, but the doctor was still hopeful she would still have a few years, that he would get it to a manageable level and she would go in regularly for that they call "maintenance" treatments. Unfortunately, the CAT scans did not show at any point that the cancer was spreading, only after she had a stroke and they did a full body MRI did they see to the extent that it had. My mom passed away peacefully surrounded by those of us that loved her. She was blessed in that she did not suffer, and we were blessed to have had her.

Our only hope is that we can all try to pass on to JJ just how lucky he was to have her for a grandmother! We are and will remain vigilent in finding any way possible to find a cure so others do not have to go through what my mom did, or feel the loss we now do! Many of you have had to endure silly emails about sending a duck or making a woman since the sponsers are donating to breast cancer initiatives. In a few short weeks we will be doing the Komen walk in Hunt Valley, like we did last year in New Jersey (so forgive me ahead of time for hitting you up for $.) Also, my friend has added and will continue to add information to her blog, please go through the link below to visit her site!
http://luvkids334.blogspot.com/2008/10/going-pink-and-purple.html

(and as a side note, please do not remain lax in your own breast health! My best friend was diagnosed a month after my mom's passing with inflammatory breast cancer, 1/2 way through her 2nd pregnancy. Thankfully both she and her son are happy & healthy! This really does affect us all!)

Yep, JJ's taking after his uncles.....

.... he likes older women.....

Many of you know I have a "step-niece" who comes down a couple times a year. While on myspace this morning I was commenting on her school pic and JJ says "That's Bwitney, she's pwety, Bwitney in Penswlavana."

And 1st thing he asked when I picked him up from daycare yesterday "We going home?" I told him yes, did he want to go home and he answers "no, I wanna see Ms Kerri." I told him not tonight and he said "gonna see Ms Kerri tomowow."

Yep, already the little ladies man, forget girls his own age!

Crazy Momma

So, I'm trying to straighten up last night after my neighbor left and JJ tells me he wants to peepee on the potty, I asked him to wait a minute so I could finish the thing I was doing, he said ok. Instead he goes in the bathroom, gets himself undressed, then comes back out carrying his shorts, telling me he went. Ok, now mind you in the past 6 months he's gone twice, just by happenstance, since he sits on the potty every day. Anyway, I go to check things out, and yes, in fact he did. I made a big production over it, hugs, kisses, praise, and some coins to feed his piggy bank, all the while he's of course looking at me like I'm crazy, but he's lapping up the attention. So, here is the 1st time he goes on his own, INTENTIONALLY, and of course I missed it!

I hate politics

So, why is it that its socially acceptable to be a "bigot" in terms of political parties? I'm just so surprised at the number of people who pick someone to vote for just based on how they are registered, automatically disliking the other party's person. They aren't looking into where the parties stand or their voting history at all. Now, I know what you're thinking, we're free to vote how ever we want, but in all this I can't help but feel that having the different political parties hinders the system more than helps b/c the focus is not on the real issues, but just choosing the party you have affiliated yourself with.

Take me with a grain of salt when it comes to politics though, I'm a cynic in all this anyways, I feel that no matter what we're just voting for the lesser of two evils. I just feel that sometimes its trivialized.

Sit on the couch with me....

JJ's going through something now where he wants me on the couch with him. There's only so many times I can stomach the Scooby Doo movie, but even if he is playing on the floor and I try to get up, he asks once again "sit on the couch with me." Maybe he knows something I don't about myself, maybe he's not being unusually clingy (he normally saves that for outside the home and not so much of late.) Maybe he knows I need the rest, not that I don't know it too, but the clothes hamper just doesn't shut up, nor the little things to be put away or food to cook. Oh, well, I've been listening to him more often than not b/c I know there will come a day, much too quickly, where he won't want to be around me.

I'm really reaching far back from this picture! From left to right you have my Dad, Uncle Bill, and Uncle Gary. What handsome men, and do you think they know it (if you knew my Dad and Uncle today, you'd say yeah.)

No wonder I had a thing for men in uniform (still do, shhhh!)

I found out last night my brother's orders for Texas were changed, so thanks for everyone who sent their PP&T his way!

He "pulled a Tony"

Last night JJ went outside with me while I was getting 1 of my projects that I had spray painted. He kept opening and closing the sliding glass door so instead of letting all the moths in I closed the screen door. We stayed out a little while, then went to walk in, and JJ walks smack into the screen (or as we call it "pulling a Tony.")

He immediately busts out laughing, as if its the funniest thing in the world. His next thing, in between spurts of giggles, he holds his nose and says "I hurt me face."

Of course, I'm the mean mommy, just about to pee her pants laughing right along with him, but I will admit, his reaction was much more comedic than the blunder!

I miss JJ

He cried this morning when I dropped him off. While I know he's settled in perfectly and happily playing with his friends, my heart is still heavy, and will be until I pick him back up. I think mommy is going to needs some extra hugga-buggas tonight.

Are you ready for some football?

JJ is! He was so wore out from this weekend in Southern MD that he fell asleep last night at 8:30, and for anyone who doesn't know him, that's EARLY. He did wake up at 10, came out in the kitchen to get a drink, and then settled himself on the couch to watch the Pittsburgh game, we told him to come back to bed to go to sleep, which he did. But, I had something else on and he told me to put football on, and wouldn't you know, the 1st commercials that come on he tells me to put football back on, as if I changed the channel. Now, time will tell who his team will be, of course I'm hoping Dallas, John's hoping Redskins, but of course, it will be something out there from ours, lol (I just gotta get Uncle Tommy working on him on my behalf, gang up on John.)

Remember......

My cousin sent this to me last night:
http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/redskeltonpledgeofallegiance.htm
I -- Me; an individual; a committee of one.
Pledge -- Dedicate all of my worldly good to give without self-pity.
Allegiance -- My love and my devotion.
To the Flag -- Our standard. “Old Glory”; a symbol of courage. And wherever she waves, there is respect, because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts “Freedom is everybody's job.”
of the United -- That means we have all come together.
States -- Individual communities that have united into 48 great states; 48 individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose; all divided by imaginary boundaries, yet united to a common cause, and that’s love of country, of America.
And to the Republic -- A Republic: a sovereign state in which power is invested into the representatives chosen by the people to govern; and the government is the people; and it's from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.
For which it stands
One Nation
-- Meaning "so blessed by God."
Indivisible -- Incapable of being divided.
With Liberty -- Which is freedom; the right of power for one to live his own life without fears, threats, or any sort of retaliation.
And Justice -- The principle and qualities of dealing fairly with others.
For All -- For All. That means, boys and girls, it's as much your country as it is mine.
-Now let me hear you recite the Pledge of Allegiance:
I pledge allegianceto the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic, for which it stands;one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
-Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country, and two words have been added to the Pledge of Allegiance: Under God. Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said, "That is a prayer" -- and that be eliminated from our schools, too?

Halloween Photo Contest

Here I am once again, peddling photos of my son. He's either going to decide to join the Amish community with an aversion to cameras, or he will grow up to work for National Geographic. The rate I'm going there will be no in between.

But, please view my Halloween Costume Contest photo gallery on Parents.com. Use the link below to view, rate, and recommend my photos
